  2. I found you blog by googling for Birchwood. We also stayed here on our honeymoon back in 1974. So sad to see it in such disrepair. We were hoping for an anniversary trip. Friends we met on our honeymoon had a reunion here for #25 ...doesn't look like we'll be able to join them here for #40 .. Thanks for posting and congratulations on your wedding anniversaries!

  3. So happy to have found your blog! We spent our honeymoon here in 1966! We were given a coupon to return for a weekend for $40! Guess we should have done it! Hehe! We don't remember how to get there and want to take a drive back, can someone help us with directions? Happy Anniversary!

  8. My wife and I were there Sept 11.2001. Empty because of all the cancellations but still wonderful . I was tole that it was gong to be turned into a Taoist temple . But now the plans are different . Miss it . anyone have any news ???

  9. The Tao temple idea died with the unexpected death of the owner. The property went into receivership shortly after and fell into disrepair over the next few years. At one time it was considered as a site for a new waterpark, but these plans too seem to have faded. It now slowly deteriorates, as many of the Poconos honeymoon destinations have in recent years. I grew up in this neighborhood and watched as Birchwood grew from a tiny hotel type resort to a large honeymoon destination. It's once beautiful grounds, buildings, lakes and airport now showing the ravages unattended time.

  10. Good afternoon
I was searching the internet trying to find out more things about the Birchwood Honeymoon Resort, when I stumbled upon your comment on an article. I live nearby and I visited recently and it's broken down and I would love to see pictures of it from when it was still running. If you could provide pictures, I would be more than grateful but if not, then it's okay also, just telling me a bit about it, anything really, would be nice. Thank you!(:

    1. I will have to dig out our honeymoon pictures. At the time, I was not into photography so any pictures I have were taken by the staff photographer.

  11. 1967 Honeymoon, a life time ago, stayed in Swiss Chalet, remember it took forever to fill the huge bath . We finally started filling it before we went to dinner.

  12. We too spent our honeymoon there in November 1975. It was a perfect spot. We just stayed there all week enjoying all the amenities--pool, shows, bowling, dipping candles, mini golf and the photographer taking pictures of us to treasure. Said ours was going on a poster advertising the place--but I think they changed the pictures every week. LOL Good memories. Still have drinking glasses from there.

  13. We were there in 1977 and again in the 90s for our anniversary - what a beautiful place and can't imagine someone hasn't bought this hidden treasure and made a viable business.

  14. When we went back in 2010, it was no more. They were just abandoned buildings.

My husband and I in Chalet#1 with the Canopy Bed, the 2 fireplaces, upstairs and downstairs, the Sauna and the Jacuzzi. All in the privacy of our Chalet. This all started in the year 1984. Memories that can never be taken away. Oh, and I cannot leave out the enterta ment after dinner, George and the diminished 5th singing LADY !,
